Powerful antioxidant for healthy cells: Astaxanthin is a substance that microalgae (such as Haematococcus pluvialis) accumulate in large amounts when exposed to intense sunlight and the associated stress. This is how algae protect themselves from damage using astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is also capable of accumulating in all cells of the human body. It can cross both the blood-retina barrier and the blood-brain barrier, providing benefits on both sides. Many similar products contain cheap vegetable oils, such as sunflower oil. The problem with refined vegetable oils is that they oxidize during industrial processing, thereby creating free radicals in the body.
